Psychological Assessments

Therapists provide comprehensive psychological assessments for children and adolescents aged 2.5 to 18 years. Assessments can help develop a clearer understanding of a young person’s unique cognitive, emotional, behavioural and learning profile, and may assist in exploring or clarifying a diagnosis.

We can conduct the following Assessments:

Cognitive Assessment - sometimes referred to as an ‘IQ’ assessment, this provides insight into how a child thinks, learns and processes information. It looks at a range of cognitive abilities, and can help identify a child’s individual cognitive strengths and areas that may be more challenging. It may also be used to explore concerns about cognitive development or to identify whether a child may have advanced cognitive abilities or giftedness.

Cognitive assessments we use include:

  • Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence – Fourth Edition (WPPSI-IV)

  • Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children – Fifth Edition (WISC-V)

Academic & Educational Assessment - combining cognitive and achievement assessments (e.g. WIAT-III) to determine whether a child is achieving their true potential, to assist in diagnosing specific learning difficulties (e.g. dyslexia) or areas of giftedness.

Intellectual Assessment – combining functional & cognitive assessment to determine a possible Intellectual Disability

ADHD Assessment – combining parent/teacher reports, clinical observation and Conner’s 4th Ed diagnostic

Autism Spectrum Assessments – combine adaptive behaviour assessment, clinical observation, SRS-2, ADI-R and ADOS/CARS-2 diagnostic tools.
