MEET LEISA
Supporting Families With Understanding & Care
Hi, I’m Leisa, the founder of Joyful Minds Child Psychology. I’m a Registered Psychologist with a passion for working with children, adolescents and their families.
Over the past five years, I’ve had the privilege of working with young people experiencing a range of emotional, behavioural and developmental challenges. I genuinely enjoy helping children and families feel more confident, understood and supported. Before becoming a psychologist, I worked as a Primary School Teacher and Child Protection Caseworker, experiences that have shaped my understanding of children and families from a range of different perspectives. I’m also a mum to two very energetic children who love to keep me challenged every day!
My goal is to help children and young people build on their strengths and develop the skills they need to feel confident and reach their potential. I also aim to support parents and families to better understand their child and navigate challenges together, creating happier and more connected family relationships.
I take a collaborative, strengths-based approach, using evidence-based psychological approaches tailored to each child and family. I have experience supporting young people with anxiety, low mood, ADHD and ASD-related challenges, learning difficulties, emotional regulation, parenting concerns, and relationship and family difficulties. I also have significant experience in administering psychometric assessment to assist in determining the presence of underlying neurodevelopmental conditions such as ADHD, Specific Learning Disorders (e.g. dyslexia), Autism Spectrum Disorders and Intellectual Disability.
My qualifications include a Bachelor of Arts, Master of Teaching (Primary), Graduate Diploma in Psychology and a Bachelor of Social Science Psychology (Hons).
